Things to do in Cyprus in May

Easter Sunday – 5 May 2013

This is the most important of the religious festivals in Cyprus and Greece and a lovely time to visit the island.

The weather is perfect for sightseeing as it’s not too hot and there are lots of events to enjoy.

There are many special deals on the lovely holiday villas, hotels and apartments you can rent over the Easter period. If you want to find cheap flights it’s always best to book early.

If you feel like trying something different you can always discover the real Cyprus and stay in one of the lovely villages which are just a stones throw away from the popular resorts of the island.

Natasa Theodoridou the well-known Greek singer returns to Cyprus for a unique live performance at Blinkers Club in Nicosia.

She is the only female Greek artist to have her first three albums achieve platinum status.

The International Pharos Chamber Music Festival

21 May – 1 June 2013

Cyprus : 13th International Pharos Chamber Music Festival

This is the most important annual classical music event on the island which attracts over 2.000 visitors every year.

This year’s Festival would not have been possible if it were not for the kindness of the participating artists.

They expressed their wish to show solidarity with the people of Cyprus by performing for a very small symbolic fee in order to enable the Foundation to reduce the price of the tickets even more.

Anthestiria Festival

Anthestiria comes from the Greek word anthos for flower hence the name of the festival.

The event is held every year during the month of May in cities, towns and villages across Cyprus.

The festival derives from the ancient festival held in Athens in honor of Dionysus the god of wine and fertility and is also the carnivals of souls, plants and flowers and celebrate the re-birth of man and nature.

As well as exhibitions, flower markets and shows the main focus of the event is on the flower parade which consists of beautifully decorated floats and it’s customary for people to follow the procession carrying flowers.

Main events are held in the tourist area of Yermasoyia in Limassol, in the old harbor of Kato Paphos and along Phinikoudes promenad in Larnaca.


Aphrodite Rally

26 May – 2 June 2013

This classic car rally which attracts locals and foreigners is a part of FIA Historic Rally Championship organized by the Cyprus Automobile Association (CAA) and sponsored by the Cyprus Tourism Organization.

Participants include drivers from all over the world including Cyprus.
