Tips on Cyprus Travel

Air Travel to Cyprus

From the UK flights to Cyprus usually take approximately 4 - 5 hours (it's always longer on the return flight).

You arrive at either Larnaca airport (main international airport on the island) or Paphos International Airport.

There are many direct flights to both Larnaca and Paphos from Europe so if you're coming from far away it's easy to find a connection.

Flights to Cyprus

Many visitors to Cyprus book their flights and hotel separately as there are many excellent deals on cheap flights to Cyprus.

As well as airlines such as Easy Jet and Monarch offering cheap flights to Larnaca and Paphos there are many special deals on flights to Cyprus from Cyprus Airways and Travel Republic

Cyprus Travel - Ferries to Cyprus

Since 2001, there are no longer any passenger ferries to Cyprus but you can still send vehicles unaccompanied.

There are of course many cruises from Cyprus to Greece, the Greek Islands, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria.

In 2010 there was news that a car ferry service between Cyprus and Greece was to be restored. If the ferry service begins it will link Limassol port with Lavrio which is south east of Athens.

Cyprus Travel - Entering Cyprus

If your visit to Cyprus is less than 3 months a valid passport is required and EU nationals can also enter Cyprus with a valid ID Card.

Visas are NOT required for passport holders from the EU, USA, Australia and Canada.

When to Travel to Cyprus

If you like the heat then you'll love the weather in Cyprus as it has long hot summers. If you prefer it a little cooler then the best time to travel to Cyprus is during the months of May and September.

The summer months are very hot with temperatures soaring into the 40s in July and August so bring plenty of sun protection with you.

Want to learn a little Greek ?

learn greek You will enjoy your visit to Cyprus so much more if you learn a little Greek before you get here. Cyprus was for many years a British Colony, consequently many Cypriots speak English as well as Greek.

However, if you travel to any of the inland villages you'll find many of the people don't speak English so it's a good idea to learn a few words of Greek before you arrive.

One of the easiest ways to learn Greek is with Michel Thomas Greek for Beginners which eases you into the Greek language. You don't use books and you don't have to write anything down. Hara Garoufalia is a native speaker and you learn alongside two students who are also learning Greek.
