St Georges Paphos (Ayios Georgios)
The small fishing village of St Georges Paphos (Ayios Georgios) is just a short distance from the village of Pegeia (pronounced Peyia). Of archaeological interest are the nearby remains of an ancient Basilica with floor mosaics still visible.
Just before you reach Ayios Georgios and facing the unusual Island of Geronisos, is the popular residential area known as Sea Caves where there are many natural caves (hence the name). The church of Agios Georgios overlooks the beach and you can enjoy water sports such as snorkelling and scuba-diving.
A few minutes drive from here is the lovely resort of Coral Bay and a little further north is the stunning nature reserve of the Akamas Peninsula.
There's a lovely little harbour and the local family-run fish restaurants are well worth a visit.
The very popular St Georges fish restaurant gets packed on Sundays with locals and tourists enjoying the delicious Cypriot cuisine.
You can lunch on fresh barbouni (red mullet), calamari and various other fish and meat dishes served with delicious chips and the freshest of salads.
If the restaurant is full you can dine 'al fresco' on the lovely terrace, under the vines, overlooking the sparkling blue Mediterranean sea.
